MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Signed (Thos. Brown, BIRMINGHAM). Four square pillars. A little wear to the pillar tops, but generally fine, and running.
DIAL : White enamel dial in reasonable condition. No chips or repairs but two hairlines from the centre and a lighter one across the edge at 7. This is not the original dial (fractionally too small), and has been glued to the original dial plate. However it is of the correct style and date for the movement and case (mid 18th century).
Very nice, original 18thc, steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, but with no marks except a rubbed maker's mark. In reasonable condition, with a repair to the inside where the stem has been reattached. The stem and bow are probably later.
The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome bull's eye crystal is also fine.
OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with no marks. Probably a replacement as it is slightly too big for the inner. The catch and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly, though the catch and button are replacements.
