This is a nice old English silver pair cased pocket watch, in working condition, with a verge escapement fusee movement, made around 1759, by Butt (possibly Robert) in London.

MOVEMENT : Nicely gilded movement, with square pillars and beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock with “lace” edging (typical of 1760s). The movement is signed and numbered (16437). It is running well.

DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 36.5 mm in diameter. It is in good condition with two very light hairlines from the centre and a repair around the opening catch at 6 o’clock. The small catch used to open the movement is worm and the movement is more safely opened by releasing the catch with a pin.
Nice matching 18th century beetle and poker hands (not reproduction).

INNER CASE : Full hallmarks for London, 1759, maker WT. The hinge is in good condition and the case closes nicely. High dome bull’s eye crystal in good condition. The bow and pendant are fine with the usual repaired join to the case. The silver is in excellent condition with no dents, bad scratches or excessive wear. The back of the case is engraved with the original owner’s initials and date “BW 1760 BC”.

OUTER CASE : Matching marks to the inner. Again the hinge is good but the catch and release button are missing. The silver is in good condition with no dents, repairs or damage.
