Silver repousse pair cases
Verge movement
Sold
This is an English silver repousse pair cased pocket watch, with a verge escapement fusee movement, and polychrome dial, made in around 1777. The movement is signed “Somersall, London”.
MOVEMENT : Signed and numbered (1030), with engraved and pieced double footed balance cock. It is running well.
DIAL : The painted enamel dial is about 36 mm in diameter. It is in good condition but with a repair around the catch at 6 o’clock.
Matching brass hands.
INNER CASE : Full hallmarks for London, 1777. The hinge is in good condition and the case closes nicely. High dome crystal in good condition. The bow and pendant are fine but with the usual repaired join to the case. The silver is in reasonable condition with just light bruises and the repair where the pendant has been reattached.
OUTER CASE : An excellent repousse case, with good hinge, catch and release button. No holes and just some wear to the high points on the back. Some small dents to the front edge of the bezel, but generally a fine case.
