Gold repousse pair cases
Verge movement
Sold
This is a fine English solid gold pair cased pocket watch, in good condition, with a verge escapement fusee movement and wonderful repousse case. It was made by William Duchesne in London around 1760.
MOVEMENT : Typical high quality mid 18th century English verge movement in very fine condition. Beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. It is signed and numbered (3564) and running well. Interesting mainspring setup with ratchet wheel under the dial. This appears to be original and is very unusual.
DIAL : The white enamel dial is about 35 mm in diameter. It is in exceptional condition with just a couple of tiny surface scratches but virtually mint.
INNER CASE : No hallmarks but tested as high carat gold. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The pendant has the usual repair where it has been reattached to the case. The high dome crystal is also in good condition. The case is in very good condition with just some very small knocks on the back.
OUTER CASE : The gold repousse pair case is in excellent condition with very little wear and no damage or repairs. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. This case is 47.5 mm in diameter.
