This wonderful English watch, in a solid gold repousse pair case with gold/gilt chatelaine, has a verge movement and spectacular polychrome dial. It was made by Nathaniel Eagle in London, around 1780.
MOVEMENT : Engraved and pierced balance cock. It is signed and numbered (7706) and running very well.
DIAL : The spectacular painted dial is about 34 mm in diameter. It is in perfect condition, and must have been restored, but done very well. Nice matching fancy hands.
INNER CASE : 22ct gold. Diameter 38 mm. Hallmarked for London, possibly 1784 (the year mark has been partially lost by the winding aperture). Maker JHC?.
The case is in excellent condition. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The only repair is to the side of the bow, with one end a slightly different colour. The high dome crystal is in good condition. The gold is in good condition with no dents, noticeable scratches or wear.
OUTER CASE : 22ct gold. Diameter 43.75 mm. No marks but tested as high carat gold. Excellent condition with no repairs, damage or wear.
CHATELAINE : Gilt brass and gold. Length without watch 122 mm. The clip is gilded brass but much of the decoration on the front is of different coloured gold. The clips all fully jointed. Excellent condition,
The watch and chatelaine are complete with a beautifully made, modern, fitted case, which is also in excellent condition.
