MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and square pillars. The balance cock features a fine pierced “lace” edge which is typical of the period. The movement is signed and is in nice clean and original condition. It is running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial, 35.25 mm. In wonderful, virtually mint condition, with no repairs, chips or scratches. Nice 18th century steel beetle and poker hands though the minute hand has lost the tip.

INNER CASE : Silver, 41.85 mm in diameter. Hallmarked for London, 1757, maker’s mark DA. Good overall condition, with no repairs but one dent on the back and the hole beneath the catch (used to press open the catch) has been enlarged. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut nicely. Good high dome bull’s eye crystal with no damage.

OUTER CASE : Silver, 49.5 mm in diameter. Matching hallmarks to the inner. Again in good condition, with just a couple of very light dents on the back, and wear to the catch button. The hinge is fine though the catch has worn so the case doesn’t snap shut. The back has been beautifully engraved “JS to RS” ?

Loomes lists John Terry in York up until his death in 1757 when he was succeeded by his son in 1759, also John Terry.
