MOVEMENT : Gilded verge fusee movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Signed and numbered (42917). It is in excellent condition and is running well.
DIAL : Cream enamel, 45.5 mm in diameter, with the name “THOMAS JACOBS’ in place of numbers. It is in perfect condition.
INNER CASE : Silver, 49.5 mm in diameter. Hallmarked for London, 1845. Maker’s mark JW. Very fine condition and no repairs. Good high dome bull’s eye crystal with no damage. The hinge and catch are fine and the case closes properly.
OUTER CASE : Silver, 55.5 mm in diameter. Matching hallmarks to the inner. Hinge and catch fine and the case closes nicely. Like the inner case, in very fine condition.
Jwebb & Son are listed in Newbury between 1770 and 1850.
The outer case includes an original watchpaper from George Webb, Newbury, “By Special Appointment To The Duke of Cambridge”, on which is written (on the back), “Thomas Jacobs, Cleaned”. This is very rare being original to both the maker and the original owner (as signed on the dial).
