Sold

A beautiful Dutch verge, with a fantastic sun & moon calendar dial, in a champleve silver and enamel pair case.

MOVEMENT : Fully signed and numbered (134). Gilt brass verge movement, with square pillars, beautifully engraved bridged balance cock and plate, and silver regulator disc. In good, original condition and running well.

DIAL : 36.5 mm. Wonderful silver champleve dial, with an astronomical scene (globe, telescope and other instruments) in high relief. Date aperture. The inner disc rotates every 24 hours, indicating the hour of the day (sun) or night (moon) on the arched Roman V1-V1 hour sector. The single hand shows the minutes. All in excellent conditions and working perfectly.

INNER CASE : 44 mm. Maker’s mark CLP. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut nicely. Good condition throughout though the pendant has been reattached. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : 51 mm. Good repousse silver case with an enamel scene set into the back. The hinge, catch and catch button are fine. The silver is in good condition though there are a few small holes on the back where the high points have worn through. The enamel has been restored.

Gerrit Knip I and II are both listed in Amsterdam from the end of 17th century up until about 1780. The watch dates from about 1750.
