Gold pair cases
Verge movement
Sold
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Ruby coloured endstone. Signed “Alleoud, London”. Fine original condition and running well.
DIAL : 34.5 mm. Signed gold repousse dial, in excellent condition with no damage. Fine 18th century blued steel hour hand and plain blued steel minute (probably a replacement).
INNER CASE : 40.3 mm. 22 carat gold. Maker’s mark EF under a crown. Good condition, with a few small bruises around the sides and the pendant has been reattached (and reinforced). The hinge is fine and the case closes nicely. Good high dome crystal with no damage.
OUTER CASE : 46 mm. 22 carat gold. No marks, which is common for a repousse case of this date. The hinge and catch are fine. A little wear to the high points, with four tiny pin holes, a short crack between the catch button and rivot, and an old repair where some gold has been applied, from the inside, to the male figures legs.
The total weight of the watch is 74 gms.
A Pierre Alleoud is listed in Geneva, born in 1741. This watch is a little early for him but is certainly Swiss or French, so may be from the same family.
