Gilt pair cases
Verge movement
Sold
A very rare centre centres and calendar verge.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock and plate. Blued screws and silver regulator disk. Fully signed, numbered (689). Start/start lever through the inner case which stops and starts the movement. The movement is in good condition, with the gilding still bright, and it is running well.
DIAL : 39.75 mm. Wonderful white enamel dial, in good condition with just one short hairline on the edge at 6, and some surface scratches, the worst on the top subsidiary dial at 3. No repairs.
INNER CASE : 45.25 mm, gilt on brass, maker’s mark TG. The hinge is fine and the case closes but the thumbnail catch has worth so the case needs to opened with a pin. There is a crack to the bezel at 6 but the crystal is held firmly. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine. The gilding is worn through to the brass around the edge, bezel, pendant and bow.
OUTER CASE : 52.6 mm, engraved gilt brass, with matching maker’s mark to the inner. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut nicely though the catch button has worn down.
Very nice condition with the gilding intact except for a little wear to the centre of the back.
