Gilt repousse pair cases
Verge movement
Sold
MOVEMENT : Signed and numbered (12707) gilt brass verge movement, with four square pillars, engraved balance cock and plate, and silver regulator disc. Balance cock with large amethyst coloured endstone and “lace” edging (typical of the period between about 1755 and 1765). Some scratches to the plates, but complete and running.
DIAL : 35.5 mm. Attractive white enamel dial, with no repairs but with a chip at the centre, some smaller chips around the edge and surface scratches. Fancy gilt hands.
INNER CASE : 41 mm. Gilt brass. Good condition though the gilding has been worn from the outer surfaces. The high dome crystal is fine. The hinge is also fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.
OUTER CASE : 48.5 mm. Gilt brass repousse. Good condition with slight wear to high points of the repousse work, resulting in just one small pin hole. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The gilding is mostly intact with the brass just showing through on the repousse high points.
