Sold

MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with very ornate pillars, and finely engraved and pierced balance cock. The movement is signed and numbered (46969). It is in very good condition and running well.

DIAL : The white signed enamel dial, with Turkish numerals, is in very good condition with just a few light surface scratches. No repairs. Nice 18th century steel beetle and poker hands (not reproductions).

SILVER INNER CASE : Full London hallmarks for 1786, maker’s marks IT (rubbed) and movement serial no. (46969). The case and high dome crystal are both in good condition, and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The stem has been reattached and is a little worn and loose.

SILVER SECOND CASE : Full London hallmarks matching the inner. Again in very good condition. The catch is complete and the case snaps shut nicely. The catch button is slightly dented.

SILVER THIRD CASE : No silver hallmarks. Nice repousse work to back and front. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. Very good condition throughout.

Several London makers towards the end of the 18th century specialized in watches for the Eastern market. These watches with ‘Turkish’ dials often had a large hunter style outer case. These cases are never hallmarked and were probably made in the East and added to the watches when they arrived.
