Estienne Hubert Junior
Amsterdam, c1720
Silver pair cases, 56 mm.
Verge movement
Sold
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with large, beautifully engraved balance bridge, and four fine crested tulip pillars. Particularly nicely engraved bracket to the stop work. Signed “E. Hubert Junior, Amsterdam”.
Generally very good condition, though with some scratches around the pillar top. Running well.
DIAL : Later white enamel dial in reasonable condition, with no repairs but four light hairlines running from the centre. Fancy gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with no maker’s mark or hallmarks. One very light bruise on the band but otherwise in very good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel closes well. The high dome crystal has some scratches but no chips. The bow and stem are good, though the stem may have been reattached.
OUTER CASE : Silver, again with no hallmarks but a small Continental silver mark of the hinge.
Good condition, throughout. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. Just a few very light bruises to the back.
The dial and cases are later than the movement, though a perfect fit so were probably purpose made. These are probably mid 18th century.
Estienne Hubert Junior is listed in Amsterdam around 1720.
