Stock No. 1358
Edmund Marsh, London, c1700
Silver pair cases, 56.5 mm.
Verge escapement, calendar
Sold
A good early London verge with original champleve calendar dial, in silver pair cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced winged balance cock, showing birds and a mask at the neck. Four tulip pillars and silver regulator disk. Signed “EDM. MARSH, LONDON” and numbered (2538). In good condition.
The movement and calendar are both working.
DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with calendar aperture, in very good condition. Signed “MARSH, LONDON”. Nice original 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks. In quite good condition, though the pendant has been reattached and reinforced on the inside. However the pendant and bow appear to be original (of the correct simple style for c1700). There is a small section of the inner rim (about 10 mm) broken off the inner rim at 7 and a couple of old repairs.
The hinge is worn, but complete. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely.
OUTER CASE : Silver pair case, with large square hinge (7 sleeves). Again with no hallmarks. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case closes correctly. There are a couple of old repairs to the bezel and back, visible on the inside only, and some small bruises throughout.
