A late 18th century, Paris verge in a fine gold case with beautiful enamel.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, large silver regulator disk, four round pillars and blued steel screws. Unsigned (see below for attribution).
In good condition and running well.
DIAL : Original white enamel dial. In very good condition, except for some damage and filling around the winding aperture.
Fine matching gold hands.
CASE : A beautiful gold case in good condition. Rose gold highlighted with gold rope twist borders, green enamel leaves, with a beautiful enamel scene showing a girl at the alter. Painted in grey against a pale blue background (en grisaille).
The hinge is fine and he gold itself is in good condition, with just a few small pieces of the enamel and gold rope twist missing from the enamel borders The plaque is in wonderful condition. High dome bull’s eye crystal, in excellent condition.
Attribution : In 2011 Dr. Crott auctions (Germany) sold a very similar gold enamel verge pocket watch, signed “Vauchez à Paris”. The Vaucher (or Vauchez) family originally came from Fleurier and produced a large number of skilled watchmakers.
PROVENANCE : From the Landrock collection of clocks and watches.
Horst Landrock was a German watchmaker and collector. During the mid 20th century he brought together an extensive collection of old timepieces of all kinds, which was one of the most important private collections in Germany.
