This is a good Yorkshire verge escapement watch in excellent condition, with a fine signed enamel dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, blued steel regulator disk and screws, and four square pillars.
Nicely signed in a banner on the top plate (Wm. FINCH, HALIFAX).
The movement is in good original condition with no visible scratches or marks. It is running well.
DIAL : The fine white enamel signed dial is in excellent condition, with just a few light scratches and some tiny chips around the edge.
Good 18th century black steel beetle and poker hands, with just a small bit of damage to the right hand side of the tip on the minute.
INNER CASE : Silver, with nice clear hallmarks for Chester, 1769, maker’s mark IWTG.
In very good condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is also in good condition, with just a couple of scratches.
OUTER CASE : Good heavy silver pair case with marks matching the inner.
In good condition through the catch button has worn down.
William Finch is listed at Southgate, Halifax (Yorks) until his death in 1781.
The case maker’s mark is that of John Wyke & Thomas Green of Liverpool.
