MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with particularly well engraved and pierced balance cock, featuring a mask at the neck. Silver regulator disk and and four square pillars.
Signed (Sam. Brown, Edinburgh) and numbered (620).

The movement is in very good original condition throughout and is running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial in good condition, with no repairs but a small chip on the edge at 2, and another just below the centre. There are two very light hairlines running from the centre, towards 8 and 11.

Nice 18thc. blued steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with clear hallmarks for London, 1779, maker’s mark IL.
There are scratched initials WM near the winding aperture

In very good condition throughout. The high dome crystal is also in good condition.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case with matching hallmarks to the inner.

Again in very good condition throughout.

Samuel Brown is recorded working in Edinburgh between 1750 and 1787. He was the son of John Brown (working 1720-1750), and in partnership with George Skelton from 1784.

The case maker is probably John Laithwaite of Grays Inn Lane, London.
