Fine gold and enamel London verge by Wightwick & Moss

A fine early 19th century London verge, in a beautiful enamelled gold case.

MOVEMENT : Wonderful quality gilt verge movement, with beautifully engraved and pierced balance cock. Diamond endstone, four round pillars, silver regulator disk and clean blued screws. Signed (Wightwick & Moss, Ludgate St., LONDON) and numbered (2916).

This movement is in excellent, almost mint, condition and is running well.

DIAL : Fine white enamel dial in almost perfect condition, with just a small chip on the edge at 6. Matching Breguet style gold hands.

CASE : A wonderful 22ct. gold case with light blue enamel decoration to the bezel, stem, bow and back, with a dark blue enamel guilloche panel to the back. Marked on the bezel for 22ct (lion passant), and tested as 22ct, and with maker’s mark IM.

The bezel is sprung, and lifts open as the button on the top of the stem is pressed.

The gold is in good condition throughout. The catch and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly, though with a slight gap near the stem when shut. The crystal is fine.

The enamel on the bezel is fine. On the top of the pendant on one side there is slight discolouration which may be caused by an old repair. On the back, there is a very small piece of white enamel missing from the bottom of the outer rim, and some marks to the bottom area of the blue guilloche enamel, which may also be an old repair.

The watch is presented in a red Morocco leather covered New Bond St., London retailer’s box.
