A fine miniature London watch, with an excellent quality verge movement.
MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with verge escapement, the balance cock particularly finely engraved and pierced, with birds and scrolls. Pink coloured jewel endstone. Silver regulator disk, blued steel screws and four round pillars.
Signed (Jno. Cowell, Rl. Exchange, London) and numbered (8328).
The movement is in excellent condition and is running well.
DIAL : A white enamel dial.
In good condition, with just some small chips around the edge, the largest between 8 and 9.
Very fine original gold beetle and poker hands.
CASE : A gilt case, engraved with a monogram to the back.
In good condition throughout, but with wear to the gilding in parts, and a scratch to the centre of the inside back. The hinges are complete except for one sleeve detached from the bezel hinge, though it still holds and snaps the bezel shut perfectly.
The high dome crystal is in good condition.
John Cowell of Royal Exchange, London, is listed in the late 18th century.
