Gold cased duplex repeater

Stock No. 1565

Allam & Caithness
London, 1804
Gold case, 52.5 mm.
Duplex, quarter repeating movement

Sold

An early 19th century London duplex, with dumb quarter repeating movement, in a fine rose gold case.

MOVEMENT : Gilt duplex fusee movement, with blued screws, diamond endstone, and polished steel balance wheel. Signed and numbered (3322).

A few scratches around the pillar tops, but otherwise all in good condition, and running well. The movement would have originally been protected by a removable brass dust cap which is now missing.

The dumb repeater is activating by pressing down the pendant. The 2 polished steel hammers strike on 2 steel blocks on the inner sides of the case. One tap for each hour and two for each quarter.

The repeating mechanism is working correctly.

DIAL : White enamel dial.

In excellent condition, with just some tiny marks around the edge.

Matching gold coloured hands.

CASE : Hallmarks for 18ct gold, London, 1804. Maker’s mark IM.

The rose gold is in very good condition. The case snaps shut and the high dome bull’s eye crystal is good, with just some light scratches.

The gold case, excluding crystal, weighs 50 gms.

Allam & Caithness are listed in London between 1800 and 1805.
