A Scottish verge watch, in an attractive gilt and horn pair cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with finely engraved and pierced balance cock showing birds and a mask at the neck. Four round baluster pillars and silver regulator disk. Blues screws.
Running well, and in very good condition.
Signed “Hen.y Redpath, Stirling” and numbered (150).
DIAL : An elegant white enamel dial, in very good condition except for the damage on the edge at 2. Gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Gilt brass. Stamped with marker’s mark IN (under a star) and movement number 150.
In good condition though the gilding is worn on the outer surfaces, bow and stem. The hinge is ok and the bezel snaps shut correctly, though the left hand outer sleeve on the hinge has worn. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.
OUTER CASE : Gilt brass pair case with underpainted horn covering, decorated with seaweed.
Maker’s mark matching the inner.
In good condition. The hinge and catch are complete and the case snaps shut. The catch button has worn down, and the gilding shows some wear.
The horn has a couple of pieces missing from the edge of the back, at 11 and 2, and some scratches and rubbing. Most of the pique pins are present (about 90%)
