A small, late 18th century, Swiss verge in a gold gem set case, with enamel plaque to the back.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge, silver regulator disk, four round pillars and blued steel screws.
Signed “Fres. Wiss & Amalric” and numbered “7778”.
In good condition, with a few light scratches and scuffs. Running well.
DIAL : Original white enamel dial, in excellent condition, except for one short faint hairline from the edge at 1:30.
Breguet style gilt hands.
CASE : A gold case, with gem set bezel, and enamel portrait placque to the back, again with a gem set border. These is case maker’s mark to the back and the movement serial number is stamped on the stem “7778”.
The gold itself is in good condition, but the bezel has one gem missing (at 2:30) and another missing from the border to the enamel on the back,.
The enamel plaque is lightly scratched and rubbed, especially to the centre. Also a few solder marks (old repair ?) around the gem set border.
The hinge is fine and the case itself is in good condition, with just a few light scratches to the enamel. The high dome crystal has a short scratch at the top left and a couple of tiny nibbles right on the edge,.
Wiss & Amalric are listed in Switzerland (probably Geneva) in the late 18th century.
