Mid 18thc. London Verge

A mid 18th century English verge watch, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four square baluster pillars. Silver regulator disk.

Running well, and in good condition.

Signed “Jno. Lowe, London” and numbered (1011).

DIAL : A fine white enamel dial, in very good condition with no damage. Probably a little later than the watch, ie. late 18thc.

Fine blued steel beetle and poker hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1754, maker’s mark LM (rubbed).

In good condition. The hinge has one sleeve worn through, but the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is good. The bow is a little loose so probably a replacement. The movement catch is accessed through a small hole in the case at 6. The catch is released by pushing a pin through this hole.

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case. Matching maker’s mark to the inner but hallmarks worn.

In good condition. The hinge and catch are complete and the case snaps shut though there is a deep dent to the catch button.
