Gilt & shagreen pair cases, 47 mm
Verge escapement
Sold
A late 18th century English verge watch, in gilt and shagreen pair cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, blued screws, and four square baluster pillars. Silver regulator disk.
Running well, and in good condition.
Signed “Thos. Brockus, London” and numbered (1431).
DIAL : A nice white enamel dial, in very good condition with just a short faint hairline from the edge at 11 and some light scratches.
Gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Gilt, with maker’s mark TH.
The gilding has work away in a few places, mainly on the pendant and band. The pendant has been reattached (solder showing) but otherwise the condition is good. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut. The high dome bull’s eye crystal has a couple of nibbles right on the edge which are hidden by the bezel, but otherwise good.
OUTER CASE : Gilt/shagreen pair case.
This case is in reasonable condition, with wear to the catch button and areas of shagreen damage, but only to the bezel, which has a few areas of shagreen worn or missing, but only 4 pins missing. The shagreen on the back is complete and a good colour, with just 5 pins missing.
The hinge, catch button and catch are complete and the case snaps shut correctly.
