A good early London verge, with a calendar dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, the large winged balance cock with a wide ‘D’ shaped foot pierced and engraved with scrolls, foliage and a mask to the neck.
Signed ‘Will. Kipling, London”and numbered 596 In good condition, and running well. The calendar function works correctly.
DIAL : Silver champleve dial, with signed (Kipling, LONDON) central disk, and calendar window under the signature. In good condition.
Fancy gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Rubbed maker’s mark ?H and movement serial number 59?.
In quite good condition with some compression to the band and a few light bruises. The stem is unusual but appears to be original. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.
OUTER CASE : No marks visible but much of the inside is obscured by a large steel catch spring which must be a replacement. The hinge is fine and the bezel can close, though with a gap. The catch button is badly dented but does operate.
