Gold & enamel pair cases, 45.5 mm
Verge escapement
Sold
This is a fine 18thc. Swiss verge, in gem set gold and enamel pair cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilded fusee verge escapement, with engraved and pierced balance bridge and large silver regulator disk. Red gem endstone. Four round baluster pillars.
Signed ‘Terrot & Fazy, A GENEVE’ and numbered (13478).
In excellent condition and running well.
DIAL : White enamel dial, in quite good condition. There are two scratches, both running from the edge towards the centre, at 5 and 11. There is a light hairline running from 6 to 10.
Gilt Breguet style hands.
INNER CASE : Rose gold, with no maker’s mark but stamped with the movement number (13478).
In excellent condition, though the stem may have been reattached. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut perfectly. The high dome crystal is otherwise fine.
OUTER CASE : A beautiful gold and enamel case, with gems set to both the bezel and the monogram on the back panel. Engraved rose and yellow gold to the bezel and band, and a blue guilloche panel to the back with pink enamel border. The catch button is set with a large stone (diamond or glass ?).
The overall condition is very good. The stones on the front bezel, set in silver, are complete (though some discoloured). The pink enamel border to the back has small areas on enamel missing at the catch, and at 5 and 8. The blue guilloche panel is perfect except for one small chip on the edge at 5. There appears to be just two tiny stones missing from the monogram.
The hinge and catch are fine, and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
Both cases test as gold.
Terrot and Fazy are listed in Geneva around 1770.
