Early 18thc. Silver Cased Verge

This is an early English verge escapement watch, in a silver consular case.

MOVEMENT : Gilded fusee verge movement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock. Four Egyptian pillars. The balance cock is engraved with masks to the neck and centre, and birds to the top,.

All in exceptionally fine original condition and running well.

DIAL : A fine white enamel dial, in very good condition with just one small chip at the opening catch.

Good 18thc. blued steel beetle and poker hands, in excellent condition.

CASE : Silver, with no hallmarks or maker’s mark. The cover to the winding aperture is opened and close by a small sliding button near the stem.

In very good condition throughout. The high dome crystal is fine.

The movement dates from about 1720, the the dial must be a little later, It is an early enamel dial, so was probably added (as was the fashion) in about 1750.

The signature on the movement plate does not include the place of manufacture, but this watch was almost certainly made in London.
