Gold repousse pair cases, 47.5 mm
Verge escapement
Sold
A mid 18th century London pocket watch, in gold repousse pair cases and with original gold champleve dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilded verge escapement, with engraved and pierced winged balance cock showing a mask at the neck and birds among foliage on the table. Four square baluster pillars, large silver regulator disk and clean blued steel screws.
Signed Jno. Talbot, LONDON and numbered 2012.
The movement is in good condition, and is running well.
DIAL : A fine gold champleve dial, signed TALBOT, LONDON.
In excellent condition.
Good 18th century blued steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE : Gold, with no hallmarks but tested as high carat gold.
In reasonable condition but with some light bruises and some compression around the band.
The bow and stem (also tested as gold), have been reattached, so could be replacements. The bow is slightly thinned, where it has worn against a chain.
The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is good.
OUTER CASE : A gold (tested) repousse pair case, decorated with a Classical scene showing three figures, the female seated at a table with a wine glass in hand.
In good condition, with just some wear to the high points, mainly to the three figures. The catch and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The catch button is dented but complete.
The gold cases have a combined weight of about 40 gms. (excluding movement and crystal).
