Nottingham verge half hunter pocket watch

An early 19th century Nottingham verge watch, in silver half hunter pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four round pillars, and Bosley type regulator .

Running well, and in good condition, with just a few light scratches to the top plate.

Signed J. & T. Hallam and numbered 4538.

DIAL : A white half hunter enamel dial, in excellent condition. Just a few light scratches.

Excellent half hunter gilt (maybe gold) hands, with two pointers on the hour hand.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1811, maker’s mark TCRC.

In very good condition. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The small half hunter glass is fine. The bow and stem are good, with just a little distortion to the bow..

OUTER CASE : Silver pair case. Hallmarks and maker’s mark matching the inner.

In quite good condition. The hinge and catch are fine, though the catch button has worn down, But the button still operates the catch and the case snaps shut correctly. Just a few light bruises to the back, and a small hole on the bezel, next to the catch.

J. & T. Hallam are listed in Nottingham in 1814.

The case makers are Thomas Carpenter and Richard Carpenter of Islington Road, London.
