A silver pair cased verge, with motto dial, all in excellent condition
MOVEMENT : Gilt verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock. Four round pillars.
Signed H. Foster, Church Sqre., RYE and numbered 54932.
In complete and original condition and running well.
DIAL : Interesting enamel and gilt “Keep me clean” dial. Brass hands.
This is in perfect condition. The outer gilt rim is engraved with :
KEEP ME CLEAN AND USE ME WELL.
AND I TO YOU THE TRUTH WILL TELL.
Matching gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, hallmarked for London, 1868, maker’s mark PW, and movement serial number (54932).
The case snaps shut nicely and the silver is in good condition. The high dome bull’s eye crystal has light scratches but otherwise fine.
OUTER CASE : Silver case, with matching hallmarks to the inner.
The hinge, catch and catch button are fine and the case shuts correctly. The silver is in good condition.
The case contains 2 interesting watch papers from a Ewhurst watchmaker, dated 1884 and 1885.
