Sold
MOVEMENT : Fully signed (E. Faulkner, London) and numbered (1177). Good quality early verge movement in fine original condition and running well.
DIAL : 36 mm. White enamel. Virtually perfect condition with just one small repaired chip on the edge between 11 and 12. Nice matching gold hands
INNER CASE : Gilt brass. Maker’s mark WR. Very good condition with no repairs or damage and very little wear to the gilding. High dome crystal in fine condition. The hinge is fine and the case snaps shut nicely.
OUTER CASE : Gilt brass and enamel. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut nicely. The enamel on the bezel has been restored near the catch and some of the gilt decoration has worn off. On the back, again some gilt decoration has worn off. The central enamel portrait shows some wear and light scratches but has not been restored. Despite the wear, this is a beautiful early enamel case.
The maker is probably Edward Faulkner who was in London after 1692 and a member of the Clockmaker’s Company from 1702 until 1744.
The outer case contains a nice early embroidered fabric liner. Faded, but otherwise in good complete condition.
