A late 18th century verge escapement watch, in silver pair cases, with calendar dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, very nicely engraved and pierced balance cock, four round baluster pillars, blues screws and silver regulator disk.
Signed Thos. Wilson, Peterborough and numbered 841.
There are some scratches around the pillar tops and screw heads, but otherwise all in very good condition and running well, The calendar hand is correctly moving forward every 24 hours.
DIAL : A very fine white enamel calendar dial, in almost perfect condition, with surface scratches and a couple of short light hairlines, on the edge either side of 9.
Blued steel hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1801, maker’s mark TG.
In very good condition throughout. The hinge is fine and the bezel closes correctly. The high dome crystal is perfect.
OUTER CASE : Silver, with matching hallmarks and maker to the inner.
In excellent condition. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case snaps shut correctly.
Thomas Wilson is listed in Peterborough from 1810 until 1830.
