A small, early 19th century verge escapement watch, in a gold case.

MOVEMENT : Nice quality gilt verge movement, the plain balance cock with diamond endstone. Four round pillars, polished steel balance wheel and clean blued screws.

Signed UPJOHN, Exeter and numbered 1221.

This movement is in very good condition and is running well.

DIAL : White enamel dial in almost perfect condition, with just one tiny flake at the central aperture.

Fine gold serpentine hands, with a repair to the base of the hour hand.

CASE : A plain gold case with French gold marks to the back and stem.
Tests as high carat gold.

The gold is in good condition throughout, although there is an old repair to the bow.
The hinges are fine. The catch and catch button are good and the bezel snaps shut correctly

The high dome crystal has no chips, but there is one short scratch towards the centre at 5.

There are surprising many watchmakers, named Upjohn, listed working in Exeter towards the beginning of the 19thc. Presumably these were from the same family.
