Bristol Verge Pocket Watch

A large, early 19th century, Bristol verge watch, in silver pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four round baluster pillars, and large silver regulator disk. Particularly nicely engraved.

Signed James Worgan, Bristol and numered 1322.

Running well and in good condition.

DIAL : A fine white enamel dial, in excellent condition, with just a few light surface scratches.

Very fine gold hands.

INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1802, maker’s mark TC.

All in good condition, with just wear and scratches around the catch. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

The original owner’s name is engraved on the inside of the case :
J. Meachin, Olveston, 1802

The high dome bull’s eye crystal his good, with no chips and just some light scratches.

OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, with hallmarks and maker’s mark matching the inner.

The silver is in excellent condition. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case snaps shut.

James Worgan is listed in Bristol from 1784 until 1808.

The case maker is Thomas Carpenter of Islington Road, London.
