A Dorset verge watch, in silver pair cases.
MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four unusual baluster pillars and blued steel regulator disk.
Signed Bennet Harvey, Weymouth and numbered 3009.
Running well and in good condition.
The movement is protected by a removable white metal dustcap, signed and numbered as the movement.
DIAL : A white enamel dial, in very good condition, with just some light scratches.
Good original 18th century steel beetle and poker hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1778, maker’s mark WB.
All in good condition though the hinge is missing the right hand sleeve, but otherwise is fine. The bezel snaps shut correctly.
The high dome bull’s eye crystal his good.
OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, with hallmarks and maker’s mark matching the inner. The back is nicely engraved with the monogram JW.
The silver is in good condition. The hinge and catch are fine and the case snaps shut. The catch button has worn down but still fuctions.
Bennet Harvey is listed at Weymouth from about 1770.
