A mid 18thc. provincial verge watch, with a particularly fine dial.
MOVEMENT : Gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, engraved and pierced balance cock, four square pillars, silver regulator disk and clean blued steel screws.
Signed Wm. Presbury, Coventry.
Running well and in very good condition.
DIAL : An excellent white enamel dial in good condition, with just a few light scratches and a tiny chip on the edge at 5:30.
Blued steel ‘beetle and poker’ hands.
INNER CASE : Silver, with hallmarks for London, 1763, maker’s mark IW.
The stem has been reattached, but otherwise all in very good condition. The bezel snaps shut and the high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine.
OUTER CASE : A silver pair case, with hallmarks and maker’s mark matching the inner. There is also a scratched owner’s name on the inside ‘J. Wells’ and some other scratched initials.
The silver is in good condition. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the case snaps shut.
