A mid 18thc. verge, with silver balance cock, in silver and enamel pair cases. All in very good condition.
MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with four square pillars, silver regulator disk, and beautifully pierced and engraved silver balance cock with diamond endstone.
The movement is signed Martineau, LONDON.
All in very good condition and running well.
DIAL : Signed silver champleve dial.
In good condition.
Nice 18th century fancy gilt hands.
INNER CASE : Silver case, with maker’s mark IG.
In good condition throughout. The high dome crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The stem and bow appear to be original.
OUTER CASE : This is a very fine repousse silver case with an enamel plaque showing a female flautist set into the back.
The bezel and back are decorated with fine repousse work showing foliage and flowers.
The catch button, catch and hinge are all fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
The enamel has no chips or signs of repair, though there are some light scratches.
The silver repousse work shows very little sign of wear.
Although signed LONDON, this watch was probably made on the Continent, possibly Switzerland.
