Silver & enamel repousse pair cases, 54.5 mm
Verge escapement, calendar.

Sold

A mid 18thc. Continental calendar verge watch, in unusual silver and enamel pair cases.

MOVEMENT : Gilded movement with four lyre shaped wonderfully ornate and unusual pillars, silver regulator disk, and pierced and engraved balance bridge with ruby? endstone.

The movement is signed Etienne Masse.

All in good condition and running well.

DIAL : Signed silver champleve dial, with calendar aperture at 6.

In good condition. The calendar is operating correctly.

Nice 18th century fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE : Silver case, with maker’s mark PB and case serial number 520.

In quite good condition though with some bruising and compression around the band and the stem is slightly bent to the left. The high dome bull’s eye crystal is fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.

OUTER CASE : This is a silver case with repousse decoration and an enamel plaque showing a couple in 18th century dress.

The bezel and band are decorated with fine repousse work showing foliage and scrolls.
The catch and hinge are fine, and the bezel snaps shut though leaving a gap near the stem. The catch button is slightly dented.
The enamel is in perfect condition, though probably (very well) restored.
The silver repousse work shows very little sign of wear with no holes.

This watch was certainly made on the Continent, probably in Switzerland.
