A mid 18thc. London watch, in gilt and beautifully decorated enamel pair cases.

MOVEMENT : A gilt movement with a verge escapement, and engraved and pierced balance cock, showing scrolls and a bird at the top. Four round pillars, silver regulator disk and blued screws.

Signed Robt. Clarke and numbered 652.

All in good condition, and running well.

DIAL : Nice white enamel dial, in good condition, with no repairs or hairlines, and just a few light scratches.

Fancy gilt hands.

INNER CASE : Gilt brass case, with maker’s mark to the inside..
In good condition throughout, except for wear to the gilding on the band, bow and stem. The hinge is fine and the bezel snaps shut nicely. The high dome crystal is fine.

OUTER CASE : A gilt and enamel pair case, decorated with blue, white and gold borders to the back and bezel, and a central plaque to the back painted ‘en grisaille’ with a seated female.

In very good condition, with just one crack to the enamel across the woman’s hand.
The enamel surfaces, both inside and outside, have been very expertly restored.

The catch and hinge are fine and the bezel snaps shut correctly.
