This is an early London verge, in gilt and shagreen covered pair cases, with a gilt champleve dial.

MOVEMENT : Gilded fusee verge movement, with engraved and pierced balance cock, engraved with foliage, scrolls and a mask to the neck. Four square pillars.

Signed T Good, LONDON, and numbered 731.

In good condition and running well.

DIAL : A nice gilt champleve dial, signed as the movement.

In good coverall condition, though the black infill to the chapter ring and numbers appears to have been retouched or refilled.

Blued steel beetle and poker hands, again in good condition.

INNER CASE : Gilt metal case, with no maker’s mark.

The case is in good condition, and the bezel snaps shut correctly. The high dome crystal is fine.
There is some wear to the gilding on the stem and bow.

OUTER CASE : Gilt metal with shagreen covering.

The shagreen is in exceptional condition, retaining a good green colour, no splits or cracks. and no pique pins missing.
The gilt metal is undamaged though the gilding is worn in places. The hinge, catch button and catch are fine and the bezel snaps shut.

Thomas Good was apprenticed to Henry Jones in London in 1700.
