An unusual verge escapement watch, in silver pair cases, with regulator style dial (doctor’s watch), large seconds dial and stop work.

MOVEMENT : A gilt fusee movement, with verge escapement, very unusual engraved balance cock, four round pillars, and Bosley type regulator.

A steel lever under the dial at 4 allows the movement to be stopped and restarted.

Signed Chas. Vincent, LONDON and numbered 393.

Running well with the stop lever working correctly.

DIAL : A white enamel dial, with separate large seconds dial.

In good condition, but with a few light scratches, a small flake at the centre of the hour dial, and a repair on the edge at 8 (almost hidden by the bezel).

Gilt hands, with blued steel seconds.

INNER CASE : Silver, with London hallmarks for 1802, maker’s mark IC (under an axe).

In very good condition throughout. The bezel snaps shut correctly and the crystal is fine. The bow and stem are original.

OUTER CASE : A silver outer case, with hallmarks matching the inner.

The silver is in very good condition, and the hinge, catch and catch are good, though the catch button has worn down. The case snaps shut correctly.

Charles Vincent is listed in London between 1802 and 1820.

The case maker is Joseph Carpenter of Clerkenwell, London who used the axe motif with his initials,
