Stock No. M197

Thomas Windmills
London, c1715
Verge movement & calendar dial

Sold

This very rare large movement may have been made for a coach watch or some other type of oversized watch.

MOVEMENT : Signed Tho. Windmills, LONDON and numbered 4044 under the top plate.

The large balance cock is finely engraved with a mask to the neck and fish and birds above. The table is supported by two screwed down brackets on the edge away from the foot. The steel balance wheel has four spokes and the balance staff pallets consist of polished steel blocks rather than simple steel flags.

All in good condition and running well (for about 30 hours on a full wind).

MOVEMENT SIZE : 13.5 mm between the plates. Top plate 55 mm. Dial plate 57 mm. Dial false plate 59.5 mm.

DIAL : Early enamel dial, but later than the movement.

Good condition with no repairs but a hairline across the centre from 11 towards 6, a chip at the date window, and some light scratches.

Complete with motion wheels, including working calendar and a blued steel beetle and poker hour hand (minute hand missing).
